Myofascial Release (MFR) is an extremely effective hands-on technique that works into the fascial barriers of your body. Fascia is connective tissue. It covers and is in and throughout muscles, cells, organs, nerves, arteries, and veins. Through interactive, gentle sustained pressure, stretching or compression, your therapist softens into the fascial barrier to help you release restrictions that will reduce inflammation, eliminate pain, and restore motion. This is an extremely safe and effective therapy, never forcing the tissue barrier. An experienced MFR Therapist is essential to help bring you to deeper levels of healing in your body.
Fascia is a dense and continuous elastic web in your body....literally connecting everything with everything.
Fascia operates under the principle of tensegrity so if one area is restricted, the whole web of fascia is affected. This happens because as the body is compensating for a restriction or injury (by tightening or strengthening), another area will need to create a new posture or position to help support the body where it is. When this happens, lines of tension are created in the body causing your muscles to have to work in new ways and the whole system will now have increased pressure, in turn causing new symptoms/pain. We work by the principle of "find the pain, look elsewhere for the cause," because when you have a trauma, your body will absorb it in a way that protects you, causing a ripple effect throughout. Fascia has such good memory, storing not only the pain from your trauma but it also the emotion from it. This is another element of MFR, releasing the stored emotions as well that have been causing you pain. "Healing Is Feeling."
